Harrow Hitting Clinic - Port Colborne Vale Centre
Saturday March 23, 2019 and Sunday March 24, 2019
Team Harrow Spring Hockey would like to take this opportunity to introduce our Harrow Hitting Clinic for the 9th year in a row. As parents are aware, your child will be experiencing a new challenge with hockey. This new experience and challenge will involve body checking/body contact.
Body checking/body contact will become a big part of the game of hockey. Team Harrow has taken the initiative to introduce “the skill” of body checking/body contact. Body checking/body contact is a skill used to separate your opponent away from the puck with the main objective of gaining possession of the puck.
Through our sessions (two 1.5 hour sessions which = 3 hours total) dedicated to body checking/body contact, participants will be instructed through demonstrations and practical exercises.
The following points to properly and safely give and receive a body check will be highlighted during the two - 90 minute sessions ….
- Why and when to give a proper body check
- Skating and balance when giving and taking a body check
- Angling, timing and position when giving and taking a body check
- Where to place your arms, elbows and stick when giving and taking a body check
- Using your legs and shoulders when giving and receiving a body check
- Knowing the 3 foot danger zone along the boards when giving and receiving a body check
- Facing your opponent and keeping your head up when giving and receiving a body check
Being dedicated to hockey development, Team Harrow has retained instructor Ryan Cirillo and staff for the 3- hour body checking/body contact clinics.
Ryan’s years of experience include 3 years in the OHL starting with the Niagara Falls Thunder and finishing with the Oshawa Generals. Ryan also played 4 years of professional hockey in the ECHL with the Jacksonville Lizard Kings and Dayton Bombers. Ryan finished his professional hockey career in the WPHL with the Monroe Moccasins.
Cost of the 3 hour session, which includes a Team Harrow hat is $150 per player. A maximum of 24 participants will be accepted per group.
